The Rain Has Passed

The rain has passed
The wind is cool, it stirs the birdbath water pool
Wind-chimes ring a slow sweet song
Dancing branches all day long

Trees are opening up their leaves
Seems like all at once to me
Unfurling buds in bright spring green
Make the world all new and clean

Dandelions with their yellow light
Scattered ‘cross the lawn so bright
My peaceful Sunday afternoon
Wraps me in its warm cocoon

I found a poem I liked from a few years ago. It seemed appropriate for me today, even though it is Monday, not Sunday, and there have not been any Dandelions yet.

I hope you like it too.

Coming To Terms With Yourself

A day will come when
Finding yourself alone
You will come to terms
With your true self

You’ll come to the mirror
And welcome your face
And be kind to the person
You see in your reflection

A time will come when
You’ll grow to understand
The value of your own friendship
And the wisdom of your own advice

You’ll curl up in a comfortable chair
With a cup of forgiveness, and a good book
You will read it a while
Then turn out the light.

Thunder and Icing

Thunder and Icing
Persephone’s birth pangs
Her water has broken
Jagged lightning of pain

Darkness in daytime
Rumbling thunder
April sky pouring
A wintery rain

Every branch coated
In crystal and dripping
Freezing and melting
At the same time

Weather is fickle
Sunny then dreary
The birth of a season
Welcome Springtime!

Vaguely Spring

It’s almost here
that time of year
when seasons change
The ground
takes off her wedding gown
exposing brown and green
a faded green awaits the sun
for now, she sleeps
while seedlings stretch and yawn
her child-lings yet to be
And gentle wisps of moving air
will jostle stubborn leaves
Like teacups on the sodden grass
they fill with sugar snow
and yet the sun,
though cold and vague,
shows dusty falling flakes
Here and there their contrast shows
against the hedge’s row.
On the tops of cedar tips,
the early spring remains
just out of reach
and white still grips the fingertips
of tender growing trees.

Open Windows

April has now half gone

Now we have a day of sun

Open windows help us breathe

The freshness of the cool spring breeze

Cats that indoors live each day

Press up against the screen

Nostrils working at the air

So sweet and pure and clean

It’s such relief to see the clouds

All scattering away

And vital warmth glowing down

On such a fine spring day
